2. What type of oil goes in my engine?

Engine oil recommendations are located in the engine Operator’s Manual and also on the engine identification decal. TecumsehPower recommends using clean, high quality detergent oil. The oil should be checked before each engine use and changed every 25 hours of operation. Click on the link below for further details.

3. Can I use synthetic oil in my TecumsehPower engine?

Yes you can. We recommend changing the oil after the initial two-hour break-in period. However, due to the price of synthetic oil it may be cost-effective to use a petroleum-based oil for this break-in period and use synthetic oil from then on. Click on the link below for further details.

4. What type of spark plug goes in my engine?

The correct spark plug information can be

  • obtained by contacting your local authorized TecumsehPower servicing dealer.

The spark plug should be cleaned, adjusted, and replaced periodically. Ensure the spark plug gap remains at .030" (.762mm).

5. What is the warranty on a TecumsehPower engine?

A warranty statement is incorporated in the engine Operator’s Manual. The timeframe will vary slightly depending on the TecumsehPower model and the application. Essentially, TecumsehPower warranty covers defects in material and/or workmanship.


6. How can I get a parts breakdown for my engine?

First locate the engine’s model number and specification. Then visit the Tecumseh Engine Parts Breakdown area of this website pertaining to the engine parts list or breakdown. Follow the instructions.


7. Is there a Technician’s Handbook I can get for my engine product?

If you have a general understanding of internal combustion engines and wish to repair and service the engine yourself a Technician’s Handbook is available. The part number for the handbook is located in the engine Operator’s Manual. This Basic Troubleshooting and Service Information may help also.

8. Can I get parts factory direct?

10. What should I do when storing my engine?

Short-term storage:

  • Remove debris from the engine to facilitate adequate cooling, correct engine speed, and reduce the risk of excessive heat build up.
  • To avoid stale gas and carburetor problems treat fuel with Ultra-Fresh or other fuel stabilizer. Add according to manufacturer’s instructions.
  • After adding stabilizer, run engine for 10 minutes outdoors and away from sources of ignition to allow the fuel to reach the carburetor.
  • Run engine for 10 minutes after adding stabilizer to allow it to reach the carburetor.

Long-term storage:

  • Remove debris from the engine to facilitate adequate cooling, correct engine speed, and reduce the risk of excessive heat build-up.
  • Empty fuel tank by running engine outdoors until it stops. WARNING: NEVER leave the engine unattended when it is running, and NEVER run engine in enclosed areas. Lubricate cylinder bore to avoid corrosion.
